12/11: Twincity

September 2010 Jere Riikonen and Janne Halla read the same ad on the Internet. Both guys reply to bassist Antti Sihvonen, who was seeking guitar players for Helsinki-based pop/rock-band Twincity. Few e-mails and a dozen phone calls later, five future bandmates meet up for the first time in rehearsal studio. Drummer Joona Karppi, who has played with Antti and vocalist Jyri Kivimäki in previous bands, is the last piece of the puzzle.

In late 2010 Twincity started to work on the material Antti and Jyri had written together in the past years. Chemistry between band mates was found immediately and song after another got added to bands repertoire. In less than six months of playing together, In January 2011, Twincity played it’s debut gig at Club Liberte in front of a crowded house.

In March 2011 Twincity’s debut EP “After The Last Words Is Silence” was released. Band recorded the maiden EP by themselves and it was mixed by Ossi Tuomela. EP consisted of title track “After The Last Words Is Silence”, “A Wish” and “Fear”.

After the EP-release Twincity took part in Emergenza Festival making it up to semifinals. Even though their success wasn’t rewarded with any prizes, Twincity got a great response from the crowd at Bar Loose and On The Rocks.

In summer 2011 it was time to record Twincity’s second EP “Unbreakable”. This time everything was done professionally, with Ossi Tuomela taking part in the process from the beginning. Drum tracks were recorded by Ossi at Sonic Pump Studios, while guitars, bass, synths and vocals were finalized at Ore Mansion Studios and Drop Hammer Studios. Unbreakable-EP was mixed at Sonic Pump and mastered at Chartmakers.

Unbreakable-EP also marked a new era of Twincity songwriting, as Jere wrote the title track with Antti and Jyri. As always, the whole band took part in the arrangement completing the distinctive “Twincity-sound”.

Less than a year together, Twincity has released two EP’s, played a handful of rocking live shows and gained a solid fan base. It seems that only the sky is the limit, as the band has made such an impact in so little time!
