Now Entering A New State Of Being…
Hypnogonia is the unsigned, alternate experimental solo project of Finnish vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ricky Lindén. The main genre of Hypnogonia is an alternative rock such as grunge and to some extent, he also explores into other genres such as metal, acoustic, ambient, krautrock and even a touch of psychedelia. A demo album called Pure Ash Tray has been released and the next one is planned to come out at the end of this year or in early 2012.
Lindén formed the project in the middle of 2010 after his previous band was starting to split up. He had realized earlier the same year that he had enough material, ideas and knowledge to record and release his own demo album. It was something he had always dreamed of doing and had wanted to do for a long time. The name of the project came from combining two diverse words: “hypnagogia” and “begonia”. In psychology, ‘hypnagogia’ is a state between wakefulness and sleep. This describes the dreamy and imaginative as well as the sometime sick and gloomy side of Lindén’s music and lyrics. The begonia, on the other hand, symbolizes the beautiful, changeable and fragile side.
About ‘Pure Ash Tray’…
The debut demo album was released October 24, 2010 through multiple music sites as a free download. A digipak-release will be available sometime in July or August.
It’s a experimental release with many different influences, even though the main genre is alternative rock (like grunge). The other genres that are explored are experimental rock, metal, ambient, acoustic, psychedelia and krautrock. The music and lyrics are quite melancholic and gloomy with an overall negative feel. The album is loosely based on a concept dealing with subjects such as nostalgia, mood swings, rape, shame and acceptation. When playing the album from first to last track the previous song ends where the next starts, making the flow of the album smooth.
