Where in Finland are you from?
How would you describe your band for those who don’t know you?
Thrash metal with many influences from traditional heavy metal as well as from death and black metal. Progressive structures and epic features with an aggressive twist.
When did you form as a group?
In the early 2000. Kusmar and Rob played together in different projects in the late 90′s, but this is when Witheria was formed. In fact we were first called Fallout and released one demo before renaming ourselves Witheria in the summer of 2001.
What was the inspiration for your recent album?
We have always been writing new material and making new songs at rehearsals, so it all comes out naturally. We simply enjoy doing this shit, so why the hell not make another album?!
What other releases do you have?
We recorded five demos during 2000-2005 that are now unavailable. These are the albums, all available:
Infernal Maze – 2006 (Twisted Face)
Painful Escape – 2009 (Stay Heavy Records)
Vanishing Order – 2011 (Violent Journey Records) Release date: 2nd March
What is your favorite song on your most recent album?
This is difficult! Right now it might be Fire in Black.
Do you have any gigs coming up?
Yes! We are booking gigs right now, and we have a few confirmed ones in Helsinki on March and in Lahti on April. Also, a couple of gigs still yet to be confirmed. Anyone interested in booking us should drop us an E-mail!
What’s your favorite type of venue to play?
A small club, full of people. But with a stage please! I like an intense atmosphere, and in a small club the interaction between the audience and the band is easier to achieve. So I don’t like big, empty arenas. Also a small shithole with no PA-system or stage can be a pain in the ass, although quite fun if it’s packed.
If you could play anywhere in the world this week, where would it be?
Japan. Never been there…
Do you have a Website, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter etc?
All of the above, except for Twitter.
What are your influences as a band?
We have many influences and they vary alot depending on who you ask. Early classics such as Judas Priest, Scorpions and Iron Maiden of course. Then there are Testament, Death, Sepultura, Kreator, Sodom and such. Some of us might mention Bon Jovi or Mötley Crüe. More extreme favorites include Emperor, Immortal, Nile, Vader, Morbid Angel etc. Finnish influences include Stone, Tarot and Sentenced. The list goes on…
People who enjoy your music tend to like what other bands?
Death, Testament, Kreator, Sodom, Judas Priest… any great metal band there is! No other band sounds excatly like us, so these things are personal. People tend to like different bands.
Are you signed to a label?
Yes. Violent Journey Records is releasing our third album now, and we’ll see how it goes from there. We know the label from years back and things are running smoothly.
Where do you think you’ll be as a band in 5 years?
We are putting out our fifth album which is going to be a total sell-out which we will make millions with and quit our day time jobs. It’s gonna be a self titled with an all-yellow cover, followed by a three-year world tour. Then we all go to rehab and counselling.
Is there anything else people should know about Witheria?
