Where in Finland are you from?

Our “HQ” is Seinäjoki, Western Finland but we live somewhat around the country at the moment.

How would you describe your band for those who don’t know you?

Denyall plays a fresh mixture of melodic, atmospheric and heavy material with female vocals. We do not restrict ourselves to a specific genre and we are very open-minded for new ideas.

When did you form as a group?

Denyall was founded in September 2006.

What was the inspiration for your recent album?

When we started writing the material for “Your Pitfall” we consciously aimed to create songs that rely on powerful guitars and catchy vocals. This was actually quite different from our previous release on which keyboards were strongly present. “Your Pitfall” then ended up having keyboards only in one song.

From the lyrical perspective there are different themes on each song. For example “Of Death, Deceit and Mystery” tells a story about some incidents during World War II from an unusual point of view. “Your Pitfall” in turn is based on a true story of children that have hard time with their mother behind prison walls. Primarily we wanted to write about grave issues and hardships that are reality, be it past or present.

What other releases do you have?

We have released two demos before “Your Pitfall”, which are Random Victims (2007) and Dehumanized (2008).

What is your favorite song on your most recent album?

It is too hard to say. We all have our own favourites. Though “Shelter” is probably the one we enjoy playing live the most.

Do you have any gigs coming up?

Not at the moment but keep visiting our MySpace for updates. If you’re interested in booking us, drop an email to denyall(at)luukku.com

What’s your favorite type of venue to play?

We love to play any venue with a crowd interested in our music.

If you could play anywhere in the world this week, where would it be?

That’s a tough one…Madison Square Garden? Ha! Seriously, any major rock/metal club in the world would be awesome.

Do you have a Website, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter etc?

Yep, we’re practically all over the internet. We use MySpace as our official site. You’ll find us also in Facebook, YouTube,Bandcamp and Twitter.

What are your influences as a band?

Our influences are as diverse as each member’s taste of music which shows in our arrangements. Originally our music was strongly influenced by Finnish bands like Pain Confessor and Diablo. Also Nicole, which is another band from Seinäjoki, has inspired us along the way.

As said before we don’t restrict ourselves with genres. Almost any genre from soul to grindcore are liked among our band. For example, we like to combine “poppy” melodies with heavy guitar riffs. Contrasts are very present in our music.

People who enjoy your music tend to like what other bands?

We can’t really pinpoint any bands since our listeners seem to represent an extremely wide variety of musical tastes.

Are you signed to a label?

No. Though our latest demo “Your Pitfall” is available digitally worldwide. You’ll find it for example in iTunes and Amazon

Where do you think you’ll be as a band in 5 years?

We’ll probably still be writing the kind of music we like to play and listen to. Hopefully we’ll have lots of gigs, get signed to a label and have at least one full length album released. Hell, who knows if we’ll be doing US tours by then!

Is there anything else people should know about Denyall?

Denyall has just recently welcomed a new keyboardist to the group, Mr. Samu Hemminki, who has previously played in bands like Arcane and Psychemic. Our latest demo “Your Pitfall” was mostly guitar oriented and now we’re very excited about creating new material with Samu since having him aboard opens up lots of new possibilities for us.
