Where in Finland are you from?

We’re from Tampere

How would you describe your band for those who don’t know you?

We like to call ourselves “SoulPunkRebels”, the basic idea was to mix -77 punk and 60′s soul, but just because we haven’t found decent organ player or girls to sing the backing vocals we sound more like some poppunk or powerpop stuff.

When did you form as a group?

First rehearsals we played with me (Mambo)and Luigi in my living room in December 2007, Willy came along in January 2008 when we started for real. The idea of the name of the band came on a 32 hour ferry trip from Germany to Finland when me and Luigi we had nothing else to do, so we started to plan this band, it’s name and so… that’s when I also changed my name to Mambo Jones!

What was the inspiration for your recent album?

Well, we don’t have album made yet, but it’s been under discussion… We have plenty of songs, so it’s just question of time.

What other releases do you have?

We have two 7″ singles out:

  • “Revolution Time/Daddy Was A Punkrocker”
  • “Ruby Come Back/Everybody Loves You When You’re Dead”

Also we have one song,”Hard Luck Man” on a forthcoming four band split EP.

What is your favorite song on your most recent album?

My personal favorites are “Hard Luck Man” and “Revolution Time”.

Do you have any gigs coming up?

We have a couple of gigs during this summer here in Tampere, no further plans.

What’s your favorite type of venue to play?

We’ve used to play in a small clubs, but I’m not against the bigger venues :)

If you could play anywhere in the world this week, where would it be?

Well let’s just say in Lyceum Theatre In London, but the year would rather be 1975 and we’re supporting Bob Marley and the Wailers.

Do you have a Website, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter etc?

MySpace and Facebook

What are your influences as a band?

-77 punk rock, The Clash, The Ramones….Stax Recors, Bob Marley…

People who enjoy your music tend to like what other bands?

Are you signed to a label?

Where do you think you’ll be as a band in 5 years?

In a middle of the crises of the third album?

Is there anything else people should know about Root Mean Square?

Check out Black Mambo and make your own opinion, we’re not heavy or metal or whatever.. but we’re much more than all that!
