Death Is Only The Beginning…
Hailing from the Pori/Helsinki regions of Finland, the early days of Kalmantach began in 2002 when Mikko first met Kari. With Kari on drums and Mikko on guitar, they began writing songs and jamming together. After a couple of years, they split briefly in pursuit of other projects. By the fall of 2008, the two had come back together again and the birth of Kalmantach begins. The addition of Lauri, a long time friend of Mikko’s, as their bass player. After awhile, it became obvious that Lauri wasn’t as talented on the bass as he was the guitar. As he stepped into the role of bassist, the need and search for a new bass player began. In 2009, Janne was brought into the fold to fulfill that role. Kalmantach was complete…despite the lack of a lead vocalist, a role currently filled being filled by Kari.
Inspired by their influences from great bands such as Pantera, Testament, Death, Opeth, Metallica and even Pink Floyd, Kalmantach creates a sound that is sometimes heavier than thrash metal while other times it is mellower than death metal. Although, with the new EP, they have added a more ‘painted’ sound with the use of acoustic guitars, all designed to lend more ‘feeling’ into the songs their listeners will hear.
Kalmantach recorded their first demo, ‘Kohtalon Arvet’ (‘Scars Of Fate’) and their first demo-EP, ‘II’, in 2009 at Kämppästudio in Normarkku, Finland. In 2010, the band recorded their first EP, ‘Viha Petetyn Ei Haihdu Milloinkaan’ (‘Wrath Of The Betrayed Never Fade’) at Ansa Studio in Ulvila, Finland. It will be released in the early summer of 2010. The band is currently seeking a record label.
