01/10: Kings Of Modesty
Modesty Fit For A King…

Kings Of Modesty
Kings of Modesty have a long history leading all the way back to the 1994 when the band was formed by Samuel Hjelt (Guitarist) and Rane Simoinen (Drummer). They asked their friend Henkka Tuura to play bass and Samuel’s older brother, Mikael, joined the band on keyboards. They first took the name ‘Face Of Modesty”. Four years ago, and a few lead singers later, the band members asked their old friend Jason Flinck to join their band as their lead singer. The current line-up was born and the band changed their name to ‘Kings of Modesty’.
Kings Of Modesty are a band which has gained a lot of attention by gigging around Finland and also in Switzerland. Although Kings Of Modesty hadn’t released any prior records, the members themselves have a lot of experience in music: Jason Flinck plays bass and sings the backing vocals in the band ‘Brother Firetribe’, a sideproject with Nightwish guitarist Emppu Vuorinen and Leverage’s singer Pekka Heino. Samuel Hjelt is a former guitarist from the band called Ancara, in which he did two albums before concentrating fully on Kings Of Modesty.

The band continued a successful run of gigs until the band decided they wanted to start working on their first release. In 2007, Emppu Vuorinen, a close frined of the band, helped them produce their first promo EP. The promo contained four songs, ‘Suicidal Mission’, ‘Staring Eyes’, ‘Tailspin’ and ‘Miracle’. Emppu contributed his visions into the production and was recorded at his E-Major Studios. The promo EP gained a lot of interest from radio stations including a few in the USA, which played the song ‘Miracle’.

The band continued working hard and in the autumn of 2008, Samuel Hjelt and Jason Flinck began to produce the debut album for Kings Of Modesty. After several long months throughout the autumn and winter, the band had created their debut album, ‘Hell Or Highwater’. The songs from ‘Hell Or Highwater’ were immediately noticed and although the album hadn’t been officially released yet, the opening track, ‘Never Touched The Rainbow’, had already been played on several radio stations across Europe. The album was released on September 25, 2009 across Europe.
By this time, they had garnered quite a bit of interest and began the negotiations with several record companies. The band ultimately decided to sign with Escape Music LTD.
Album was mixed by Leverage guitar wizard Torsti Spoof and Jari Mikkola at the Studio Audio. The album was mastered at Finnvox Studios by Mika Jussila. Cover art was created by Leverage drummer Valtteri Revonkorpi and photos were taken by Kari “Carda” Helenius.
